Hi I’m Lauren, the owner and artist behind Threads of Cornwall. I’ve always been a creative person, following the art and textile route at school and college. I studied two years of Costume Design for Theatre and Screen at Wimbledon (UAL). Then transferred back home to get a degree in Fashion Design at Falmouth University. Costume Design has helped to bring out my imaginative creations and put them into practice. Whereas, at Falmouth Uni, we focused on innovation and sustainability within our work. These two courses have given me an enormous insight into the creative world and my aim is to eventually make this business my full time career. My outlook on the Fashion Industry has shifted over the years, gaining more knowledge on the issues and environmental impacts caused by the current clothing retail market. I’m now more inspired than ever to play a part in the sustainable future of slow fashion.

Please take a look at my work here :)

‘Bespoke Creations adding colour to your day’

Ever since 2021 I have been aiming to start my own small business, inspired by nature and with a sustainable ethos in mind. 2021 is when I began designing a logo and taking the time to think about all the different paths I could take my brand. However, I was still going through a covid-ridden degree, among other things going on, it delayed my progress. It’s been a long time coming, but for 2024 I finally have the time to get into the creative industry and do what I love.

Threads of Cornwall is a Creative Shop, filled with a variety of art and unique handmade products. It begins with the release of Illustrated Prints, all designed by me. Then a collection of limited sustainable bucket hats, each a one off design and made from deadstock materials. In time clothing collections, original artwork and accessories will be launched. Leading eventually to a Threads of Cornwall Upcycled Thrift shop. This will involve Re-using, Re-imagining, Re-constructing and Re-designing second hand clothes and landfill prone materials. My aim is to create a brand that is in sync with an environmentally friendly and sustainable ethos. The ultimate ambition is to produce 100% of my products using recycled or sustainable materials. Threads of Cornwall will in time deliver an alternative to fast fashion and in doing so, play It’s part in protecting the planet.

‘Beauty in the Background’

During the Pandemic ‘Beauty in the Background’ was my final graduate collection. Inspired by the Cornish coastline, my work was heavily influenced by Cadgwith, the small fishing village I grew up in. All of these garments were made from deconstructing unwanted clothes, which were donated by the community, then re-designing them into unique one off pieces. This sustainable approach is what I aim for all my future collections. The world deserves sustainable fashion and bringing new life to second hand clothes is a step in the right direction.

I want to thank the models, Jess, Pip & Talia, and Malcolm for making this video possible, it went beyond my expectations and showed my final collection at its best.
